O-BAMA!!! O-BAMA!!!

PRAISE GOD!! Tonight has been amazing. An amazing and beautiful night. Tonight, we elected the first black man to the office of President of the United States....President Barack Obama!!! My grandparents are not here to see this wonderful moment...this wonderful time in history. They would not have imagined that a black man could ever become President of the United States. Could not imagine it.

Tonight, my sister and I went downtown to party with the NCDP. When we got there, as we were walking toward the entrance of the hotel, a man who worked at the hotel burst out of a side door of the hotel, yelling "He won!! He did it!!" My sis and I rushed into the hotel, and there was happy pandemonium. Everyone yelling,, people crying, in near disbelief that this man, this black man, had been elected to the highest office in the land. It was beautiful. People of all races and nationalities rocking out in downtown Raleigh Marriot. Chants of "Yes We Can" filled the hotel lobby. It was amazing. But for me, the crowd at the Marriot was not the highlight of the evening.



My sis and I decided to leave the Marriot after McCain's concessation speech so we could watch Obama at home, and be able to hear him since the crowd was rowdy. As we were walking back to our car, we could hear yelling and cheering coming from the direction of Shaw University campus. Shaw University is one of 2 HBCUs in Raleigh. So, we decide to drive in the direction of Shaw, and as we turn down the street, students had taken to the streets. The were walking and cheering, and I along with other drivers blew our horns and yelled out of the windows as the students continued to walk down the street. Then, about a 2 blocks down, the students spilled into the intersection, blocking traffic, cheering and yelling, and chanting "O-BAMA, O-BAMA" and "YES WE CAN" It was a beautiful sight to see. Hundreds of black students in the streets celebrating history. And drivers, my sis and I included, put our cars in park, and joined the young people. People continued to blow their car horns and yell from their cars. I took several pictures, and you can check them out here.

It was such a beautiful and historic night, and these young black students from Shaw University felt it, and it showed in their actions. So often, young black people, especially young black men, are depicted in a negative light. And last night, in the streets of downtown Raleigh, the students of Shaw University, along with people of all races and ethnicities who got out of their cars, came out of bars & restaurants, and came out of their apartments, celebrated happily and peacefully. It was wonderful!!!

Another historic event happened here in the state of NC. North Carolina elected it's first woman for governor, Governor elect Bev Perdue.

History is beautiful!!!!
